Cinépolis Theatres Plan to Go 100% Digital by 2013
The influential Mexican chain of luxury movie theatres, Cinépolis has made a conscious move towards digitalizing their entire chain by next year. They’re investing an upwards of $300 million in this new digitalization project. The venture would secure Cinépolis as the first Latin American movie exhibitor company to turn completely digital. The leading chain of multiplexes hopes that this new modernization, marked by state-of-the-art digital auditoriums and equipment, will allow them to expand their capabilities to screening live concerts and sporting events, in addition to feature films. The Mexican company explained, “This represents the digitalization of 61% of their screens in Mexico. The process of digitalization of Cinépolis theatres began in 2009, throughout this year will continue in more than 2,800 screens in eight countries of Latin America, and in 2013 will conclude the total process.” Go to MexicoToday.org to find out more.
